ATHINA
~ Αθηνά ~
In a sunlit ode to Greece’s rich past and vibrant present, Athina, a new edition by co-founders Alexandra Heard and Heleena Trahanas, blends classical mythology with contemporary design sensibility.
The 15-piece handmade ceramic tableware collection draws from Hellenic heritage, with motifs like the Greek Key (meandros) and bold painterly olive forms, symbols of unity, infinity, and peace, etched and painted into every curve and glaze.
Anchored in a palette of chalky whites, the pieces were photographed across Athens’ most alluring new dining destinations: the raw elegance of Linou Soumpasis and Sia, the nostalgic warmth of Taverna ton Filon, and the pared-back chic of 10AM Lofts. These spaces form the heart of the city’s “New Wave”, a culinary and cultural revival that reinterprets traditional flavours with bold simplicity, celebrating the spirit of yiayia while ushering in a new, minimalist Mediterranean modernism.

To compliment the collection, a five-piece jewellery capsule, created in collaboration with Louise Olsen of LO, adds a touch of sculptural poetry. The evolution of Olsen’s “Chifferi” line features double-linked earrings, curved cuffs, and a singular ear cuff and ring, all in sun-warmed golden tones, bringing a sophisticated Mediterranean elegance to one’s look.
Captured through the lens of photographer Chris Kontos, Athina unfolds in the burnished light of the city, where the dust of the Acropolis still seems to dance in the air, and the past looks calmly on as the present reinvents itself. There’s a quiet reverence woven through each piece, a suggestion that the classical and the contemporary co-exist.
